Waverot is a small autonomous robot designed with a clear purpose — to detect, absorb, and recover oil directly from the ocean’s surface using nothing but solar energy and a natural, human material most people throw away: hair.
Human hair has an extraordinary ability to absorb oils — up to five times its own weight — while completely repelling water. At Aqucare, we saw not waste, but potential.
Built from biodegradable materials, Waverot operates through high-efficiency solar panels and a renewable lithium battery, allowing continuous function both day and night. Guided by AI-powered navigation and a subtle light system, it moves intelligently even under low-visibility conditions.
Inside, a rotating drum made of compacted human hair fibers absorbs the oil. A hydrophobic internal filter separates water from hydrocarbons, storing only the recovered oil in a hidden, removable tank ready for recycling.
Every component of Waverot is designed with circular efficiency in mind. Hair filters can be cleaned and reused up to two times, and when the battery reaches the end of its life, its materials are purified and repurposed.
The result: zero waste, zero carbon, and maximum impact for our oceans.
